No, dear reader, this is not “The beginnings of a great meal” as your local supermarket would have us believe, but what our weather actually delivered earlier this year: According to my 2015 desktop calendar ‘Spring begins March 20’ and so it led other poor mortals who reside in Englewood to look forward to the blossoming of flowers and discarding of winter clothing until next year.

Even a mixologist (not tied to isobars and other kinds of bars) would have been flummoxed, not to speak of the numerous local and national meteorologists on TV who were to a man – or woman – blindsided. Then came an onslaught of unusual – referred to as ‘extreme’ on TV and cable channels – weather for that time of year, and everyone was asked to exercise patience in weathering the unusual, what else, weather. So here we are on what many countries term Labor Day, that is, May the First, and we can now labor on and certainly get rid of the trappings of winter, which has thankfully departed our fair city for the time being at least – hope springs eternal!
